Jane, I pretty much choked on my granola when I got to this gem: "Asparagus is the crack cocaine of the vegetable world." If that doesn't win any converts to your asparagus-worshipping I don't know what will!

I picked up the tiny version of this on Ebay. The sauce pan is only a quart, but great for steel cut oats. I think of it as 3 pans. With the lid on, in the oven it's a perfect dutch oven. I can make a Glorius One Pot Meal for one on the nights I'm alone. Or roast one giant stuffed pork chop. Love this pan set!

Thanks for giving celery its due, Jane. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, foods like celery are celebrated for their cooling properties. So in an attempt to eat more of it, I spice it up by mixing a touch of mayonnaise with a healthy spoonful of Indian Lime Pickle, dip and snack. (Of course, the lime pickle probably has a lot of "heat", but it's delicious).

Thank you for writing, and delighted to meet a kindred spirit when it comes to corned beef hash. Curly edges on the eggs are of utmost importance! Cheers, & all best, Jane

Hi Jane,
Followed you over from takepart.com via a food inc article on FB.
I love this article. Canned CB hash with a couple of fried eggs (curly edges) and black coffee is a childhood memory.
I'm in Costa Rica at the moment and a couple of weeks ago I tried to describe it to some folks. I've been dying for some ever since.
It was my last breakfast when I left the states and will be among the first when I get back.
I totally agree that you have to spread it out and get it all crusty.
Like you, it's a once or twice a year thing.
I'm enjoying your site. I have your article on leeks (one of my faves) all queued up.
